Job and Internship Opportunities for Students and Alumni of the Virginia Tech Center for Public Administration and Policy.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
• Providing support to a team of community planners
• Assisting staff in collecting and preparing reports of variable complexity
• Assisting planning staff at community meetings, including Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors meetings
• Presenting report findings at community meetings
• Researching funding sources and writing grant proposals
• Conducting basic office functions as needed, such as data entry, file management, and customer service
Job Requirements:
• Current enrollment in a graduate school program or an advanced undergraduate degree, preferred
• Basic understanding of planning principles
• Competency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel
• Proficiency in ArcGIS
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong research and analytical skills
• The ability to work independently
• The ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Flexibility and desire to work on a variety of planning projects
Physical Demands/Special Work Environment:
• Constantly operates a computer other office equipment. These tasks involve movement picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand
• Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
• Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
• Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and data input
• Worker must be able to remain sitting for over 70% of their workday
• The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to attend meetings; access files, office machines; to interact with coworkers
• The person in this position frequently communicates and exchanges information with co-workers and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
