Job and Internship Opportunities for Students and Alumni of the Virginia Tech Center for Public Administration and Policy.

Work Schedule: This is a part-time student wage position. Work hours are flexible within OSP’s normal business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, not to exceed 20 hours per week.
Rate of Pay: Paid internship with an hourly rate range of $11 to $13. Hourly rate determined based on knowledge and experience.
Employment Start Date: Position starts Spring 2022 semester through the Summer 2022.
Opportunity for this position to be extended into the Fall 2022 based on the successful completion of the internship and available funding.
Position Description:
Virginia Tech’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) provides a comprehensive array of support services for faculty and staff as they pursue and manage external funding projects. Within OSP, the Contracts Team provides expertise and support through the thorough review, evaluation, negotiation, and execution of a variety of contractual vehicles. The Contracts Team is responsible for exercising sound decision-making and problem solving skills in the negotiation of contracts (including amendments, modifications, and subcontracts as necessary), and for assisting in the development of administrative procedures to comply with regulations affecting governmental and industry sponsored contracts. Team
members also serve as liaisons between key stakeholders including sponsors, principal investigators, the respective department representatives, LINK: The Center for Advancing Industry Partnerships,
Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties, the Office of Export and Secure Research Compliance, and University Legal Counsel to execute negotiation in a timely manner.
OSP’s Contracts Team is currently seeking an ambitious, customer service-oriented student to assist with a variety of administrative and support tasks to help streamline the overall operational functions for the team throughout all steps within the contracting process. The position will focus largely on data research and data integrity projects to improve research-related information used across campus. Must be able to work independently, applying professional behavior, sound judgment and
problem-solving skills; also, must be able to work as a well-integrated team member. Positive attitude and reliable attendance required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Review current Contracts Team databases and update records to ensure data integrity for data
migration.
• Assist in the development of processes for adding external entities to a centralized database.
• File documents in the appropriate locations using standardized naming conventions.
• Assist with assembling training documentation regarding various key topics in contracting that are of importance to faculty based upon content provided by members of the Contracts Team.
• Develop content for OSP’s website that provides faculty and departmental support personnel with helpful information regarding key contract terms and their impact on the faculty and Virginia Tech.
• Develop content for internal OSP systems and Virginia Tech employees, with an emphasis on training and documenting OSP processes.
• Provide insights regarding processes and procedures, with an emphasis on streamlining and automation.
• Assist Contracts Team members with contracts workflow tasks.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Must be a full-time undergraduate student or graduate student at Virginia Tech.
• Experience writing and developing written and/or numerical reports.
• Be responsible, depending, and ability work professionally in an office environment.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, good communication skills, and work both individually and as a team member.
• Experience with using work processing and spreadsheets as an advance user.
• Ability to maintain strict levels of confidentiality regarding data received.
• Must be able to available to work through Summer 2022.
